AEP Texas Vernon employees came together to celebrate their city’s heritage by participating in the 80th Annual Santa Rosa Roundup parade and rodeo. They drove a company truck in the parade and competed in an old Vernon tradition during the rodeo. AEP Texas also supported the roundup by contributing $2,500 to sponsor the event.
Three Vernon line workers, Logan Graham, Justin Hill, and Case Fleming, competed in a unique rodeo event called Ride the Hide.
Three people are on a team, and each person must jump on the cow hide, hold on until the horse pulls them over the finish line, and hop off for the next team member to take their place. The first team to have all three people pulled over the finish line wins. Three teams compete every night and those winners will return on the final day of the rodeo to race for first place. Although the AEP team earned second place, they created some special memories and are already looking ahead to next year.
