AEP Texas prepares for potential tropical storm; advises customers to prepare now for possible outages

August 21, 2023

One Voice #1 – Potential Tropical Storm Gulf of Mexico
Monday, 8-21-2023 – 4:15 p.m.

AEP Texas prepares for a potential tropical storm;
advises customers to prepare now for possible outages

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (August 21, 2020) – AEP Texas is closely monitoring a weather disturbance and potential tropical storm which continues to move across the Gulf of Mexico and is predicted to affect the Rio Grande Valley and other parts of the Texas Gulf Coast on Tuesday. AEP Texas is lining up crews, equipment, and other resources in anticipation of heavy rainfall and the possibility of high winds.

As the potential tropical storm approaches, AEP Texas urges all customers to remember the following safety guidelines:

  • Consider any downed power line energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or puddles of water. Because of the likelihood that the storm may impact power lines, customers are asked to keep their children and pets inside during and after the storm. Also, stay at least ten feet away from any downed power line.
  • Customers on life support systems or other medical equipment that relies on electricity are reminded to have a backup plan for situations where prolonged outages may occur.
  • If you plan to use a portable generator, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Most, if not all, require that backup generators be located outside the home and away from open windows to prevent the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.

AEP Texas will issue updates as more information becomes available. Residents can track progress on the restoration effort by visiting the outage area at www.aeptexas.com. There is a real-time map featuring the most current available information. Customers can sign up for outage alerts to receive updates on outages and follow us on social media

One Voice #1 – Potencial Tormenta Tropical Golfo de México
lunes, 8-21-2023 – 4:15 p.m.

AEP Texas se prepara para una posible tormenta tropical;
