AEP Texas proudly serves as the title sponsor of the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District’s (DMD) Downtown Run Club, a vibrant community initiative that meets every Wednesday for a 5K run along the scenic Corpus Christi Bayfront. Recently, the club hosted a special memorial run, drawing over 200 local runners and walkers who came together to honor the fallen victims of September 11.
“This run was organized to commemorate the courage and legacies of those lost on that tragic day for our country and the world,” shared Daniela Campos, Communications and Public Relations Specialist for Corpus Christi DMD.
Armando Mendez, the Transmission ROW Project Coordinator, takes the lead in organizing the weekly runs. For this memorial event, he enlisted a Marine veteran to deliver an opening prayer, setting a solemn yet uplifting tone for the occasion. The event also saw participation from a training class from the Corpus Christi Police Academy, along with several veterans and active-duty military members who “rucked” the route, carrying weighted backpacks as a tribute to those who served.
“The mission of this event was clear: to never forget,” Campos emphasized. Through these shared moments, AEP Texas and the Downtown Run Club continue to foster unity, resilience, and honor for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
