AEP Texas crews restore power to 126,000 Rio Grande Valley customers

April 30, 2023

One Voice Update #4
Rio Grande Valley Thunderstorm
4-30-2023: 6 p.m.

AEP Texas crews restore power to 126,000 Rio Grande Valley customers

As of 6 p.m. on Sunday, AEP Texas crews had restored power to 126,000 of the 155,000 customers in the Rio Grande Valley left without power by the storm late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.

Progress has been steady; however, crews are beginning to face individual outages that entail more time and effort to restore service to smaller groups of customers.  Crews have made significant progress in responding to a lot of damage left by the storm, and they will continue until service is restored to all homes or facilities that are able to take power.

Shown below are the updated estimated restoration times for the Valley to restore service to at least 95 percent of those without power.

Edinburg Area

Sunday, 10 p.m.

McAllen Area

Monday, noon

Mission Area

Monday, noon

Pharr Area

Sunday, 10 p.m.

Please remember that these are PROJECTIONS that could change as restoration efforts continue.  The estimated restoration times shown include the city listed as well as surrounding areas.

Please continue to keep safety in mind as we approach this stage of the restoration effort:  If you see any downed power lines or electrical equipment, stay at least 10 feet away and keep children and pets away.  Also, please remember to move over or slow down when approaching utility trucks pulled over for restoration work.  An additional reminder: please do not approach line workers in the field, it is important that they stay focused on safety while restoring service.

We thank you again for your patience and support throughout this restoration process.
