Nineteen Corpus Christi District employees from the Distribution Engineering, Customer Service, Stores, and Business Operations departments recently spent two hours cleaning up the North Padre Island shoreline along Michael J. Ellis Beach & Seawall, collecting 20 bags of trash to help preserve the area’s natural beauty for the community and visitors. The volunteer effort reflected the team’s commitment to environmental stewardship and service beyond the workplace.
Inspired by AEP’s Week of Service, Rene Castillo, principal customer service account representative, organized the cleanup after wanting to lead a similar community effort. The experience gave volunteers a firsthand look at the amount of debris that accumulates along the coast and reinforced the importance of supporting the communities they serve. Castillo hopes to grow the effort next year and continue building on AEP Texas’ culture of “Power for Good” through volunteerism, safety, and community engagement.
