More than 900 runners took to a runway at Corpus Christi International Airport for “Run the Runway,” a 5K race and 1K kids run benefiting Wings of Texas. For the second consecutive year, the AEP Texas Foundation and AEP Texas partnered in support of the event.
The field included 21 wheelchair athletes, known as “Captains,” who competed with volunteer runners, known as “Angels,” pushing their chairs. The race raised more than $76,000 for Wings of Texas, a Corpus Christi nonprofit that pairs individuals who use wheelchairs with volunteer runners for competitive events across Texas.
This marked the second year Wings of Texas benefited from the race, a collaboration with Corpus Christi International Airport and the AEP Texas Foundation. For the second year in a row, the one-day event generated more than the organization’s entire $60,000 annual operating budget.
